At Portland Community College, we made Cultural Candy Bars that represented a culture and/or country. My candy bar was inspired by Thailand and their beautiful civilization. The packaging was refined for the Sophomore Portfolio Review at Portland State University.
This was a product done at Portland Community College. The objective was to embody the State’s energy or impression they gave to people. I was inspired by Utah’s outdoor scenes and activities, the main focus being the amazing landscape associated with Utah. Hand drew the illustrations on vellum and configured the layers in Indesign.
This was a Type specimen book of the typeface Neuzeit Grotesk. The history, the variations it comes in, as well as showcasing what makes this typeface so unique.
This project was to make a social justice poster only using a limited color palette. I made mine about how I have been feeling about this pandemic and trying to stay strong in a very scary time of unpredictability.
FYI, I’m not a huge fan of social justice posters, never understood the importance of them, but I really love the imagery, concept, as well as hidden messaging I put into this piece. It made my friend happy receiving this and that is all that matters. Now this lovely piece hangs out in my dope bathroom for my guest to enjoy when they are on my throne.
One of my top favorite movies of all time. I recreated a scene using household items, construction paper, and amazing gluing skills. Took the picture in a white light box and placed it in InDesign to make it a magazine spread.
How can a song be visually interpreted? Type II explored this question— through simple black and white typographic compositions that captured rhythm, pitch, repetition, scale, tension, and unity. PSU Students created quick 8x8 compositions in sketch or digital form that were inspired by and/or visually represented a song played. This exercise served as a warm up to class each week. Instructor Precious Bugarin, along with her Fall 2019 class, collected and curated these exercises in the catalog you see before you.
My inspiration for showcasing these lovely sketches was the great mini field notes books we all love so much. The cover is cardboard with a perfect bind glued black spine. I have quotes in the back from featured artist, as well as blank squares for people to input their own drawings for this exercise.
I also made the front cover into its own poster as an added gift for those who received this booklet. The idea was to have a belly band holding the booklet, poster, as well as a pen, so the recipient would be bursting with inspiration on all sides, and would be ready to create as soon as humanly possible.
